The characteristic tent roof, which spans the Munich Olympic swimming pool, the Olympic hall and the Olympic stadium to almost 75,000 square meters, was supposed to be dismantled after the 1972 Summer Olympics. An outcry from the world press prevented this. The stadium served as home stadium for FC Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munich until 2005. Originally there was room for 80,000 spectators. On the day of admission, on September 20, 2003, FC Bayern Munich played a draw (3: 3) against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in front of 63,000 spectators.
