In February 2009, there was no sign of spring for miles around. The winter still had the whole of Bavaria firmly in its grip. At higher altitudes there were snow heights of over 1 meter. The undulating snow surface is caused by the constant wind, which blows the snow away and deposits it in places sheltered from the wind. To avoid snow drifts, slatted frames or plastic nets are also set up in many places.
